Thank you for nominating a student for the prestigious Montana Athletes in Service Award (or "MAIS").

As a Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) affiliate, you may nominate one person to receive this award. This award has three specific goals:  

1. To honor exemplary student-athletes volunteers from Montana's colleges and universities for their commitment and engagement in community service;
2. To raise awareness for student community engagement and volunteering.
3. To highlight student-athletes as role models to encourage more civic engagement activities throughout Montana.  

Each student-athlete should be considered for the award based on the following criteria:

• Dedication to volunteering in the community (not necessarily hours, but that's one measure); 
• The student athlete’s overall commitment to service; and 
• The positive impact or legacy of their volunteering.

The student athlete you choose can participate in any physical sporting event. This can include varsity athletics like soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, football, golf, etc., as well as other sports and physical events like logger sports, cycling, Indian relay, rodeo, stick ball roller derby, pow-wow dancing, coaching, etc.  

This award will be presented at the Brawl of the Wild Football game at Bobcat Stadium (at MSU Bozeman) on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM (noon) and student honorees will get into the game for free. While we understand that student athletes need to prioritize games, we sincerely appreciate when students can and do attend and ask that consideration be given to students available to receive the award in-person.

Every fall, the Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE) awards $1000* George M. Dennison Civic Engagement Scholarships to civically-engaged college students from our colleges and universities (see the full list of qualifying MT Campuses at https://mtengage.org/about-us/about/our-organization-history/. This scholarship recognizes outstanding college student volunteers across Montana who demonstrate exemplary civic leadership and a commitment to fostering positive change in their communities.

*These $1,000 scholarships combine a $500 cash payment with a $500 waiver or scholarship from the recipients' college or university. 

Please complete all the information below to successfully submit your application. You can save your application and return to work on it as often as needed before submission. We will not receive any part of your application until you click the "submit" button. 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• You must be a current student in good standing.
• You must be attending an MCNCE Affiliate campus in Spring 2027. 
• You must have filed a FAFSA application for the 2026-27 school year.
• You must not have previously received the George M. Dennison Civic Engagement Scholarship.
• Your application and reference must be submitted by Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 11:59 pm MST.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST:

• A list of service activities you were (or are currently) involved in.
• A list of visible impacts from your service.
• A letter of support from a supervisor or mentor.

Please read: Because this scholarship leverages local funds, students who are already receiving a full tuition waiver  for Spring 2027 should not apply, and those applications will be disqualified. Your application MUST be submitted by 11/1/2026 at 11:59 pm MST.
